Understanding Your Coverage

Deductible: The amount you pay for covered health care services before your insurance plan starts to pay. With a $2,000 deductible, for example, you pay the first $2,000 of covered services yourself before insurance begins to cover costs.
Copay: A fixed amount you pay for a covered health care service, usually when you receive the service. For example, you might pay $25 for a doctor visit or $15 for a prescription.
Coinsurance: Your share of the costs of a covered health care service, calculated as a percentage of the allowed amount for the service. For example, if the plan's allowed amount for a service is $100 and your coinsurance is 20%, you pay $20.
Maximum Out-of-Pocket: The most you have to pay for covered services in a plan year. After you spend this amount on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, your health plan pays 100% of the costs of covered benefits for the remainder of the plan year.
Premium Subsidies: Government assistance that helps eligible individuals and families reduce their monthly premium payments for health insurance purchased through the Marketplace. Eligibility is based on income and household size.
